The latest, completed by Deloitte Lithuania between November 10 and December 12, 2025, examined server infrastructure, configuration, and deployment processes across NordVPN’s standard, Double VPN, obfuscated, and Onion Over VPN server types, concluding that its systems are designed and operated in line with its no-logs claim. One caveat worth knowing: NordVPN doesn’t publish the technical report itself — only a summary — so outside verification of the report’s details is limited to what NordVPN chooses to disclose.

NordVPN’s Basic plan runs $14.99/month with no commitment, dropping to $4.49/month on a 1-year term and $3.49/month on the 2-year term (plus 3 bonus months) as an introductory rate. The catch: renewal pricing is much higher than the intro rate — both the 1-year and 2-year Basic plans renew at $139.08/year ($11.59/mo), not the price you signed up at. Higher tiers (Complete, Complete Max) bundle a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage, and identity-monitoring features on top of the VPN itself.

Security & Protocols

The default protocol is NordLynx, NordVPN’s own implementation built on WireGuard, alongside OpenVPN and NordWhisper (designed to disguise VPN traffic as regular HTTPS traffic on networks that try to block VPNs). A kill switch is available on every major platform, though its default-on behavior varies: it’s on by default on iOS and the macOS App Store app, while Windows separates an “Internet Kill Switch” from an opt-in “App Kill Switch.” Split tunneling works differently by platform — full app-based exclusion on Windows, Android, and Android TV, a port/subnet-based “Allowlist” on Linux instead, and no split tunneling on macOS or iOS.
