EasyOptOuts is a US service that finds your records on people-search sites and other data brokers and files opt-out requests for you. It costs $19.99 a year, and a small, self-funded US team runs it.

The service works only for current or recent US residents: it handles US addresses and phone numbers only, and it files no requests with brokers in the EU, the UK or anywhere else outside the United States.

In the Consumer Reports test published in 2024, EasyOptOuts removed 65% of the profiles found on 13 people-search sites after four months, one of the two best results among the seven services tested; the test had four participants per service. The trade-off is a list of 141 sites it handles directly and some large people-search networks that it cannot handle at all.

Removal Effectiveness

EasyOptOuts claims to cover more than 200 sites; this count of brokers covered comes from the company. A 2025 peer-reviewed study, which merged duplicate domains, counted 180 brokers on its list and found that it shrank by 13 during the months the study collected data. The public list names 141 sites where it files requests directly, plus 74 sites that, according to the company, rely on or redirect to brokers it covers. The company says it skips smaller brokers that publish no profiles, but does opt you out of a few large ones that are not publicly searchable.

Some large sites are outside its reach. Sites run by PeopleConnect, including TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and Intelius, confirm opt-outs through a message to your own email or phone, which the service cannot receive, so you have to use PeopleConnect’s suppression tool yourself. Social media and news articles are outside its scope, and the company says official legal records and mugshots generally need a court order to come down. It also cannot remove your data from breach dumps or from Google’s search results directly; Google drops a result only after the site behind it removes the page.

The removal method is fully automated: bots search each site for you and submit the opt-out form, with no staff involved in regular scans. After the first round, which the company says takes up to two weeks, EasyOptOuts scans again every four months, three times a year. That re-check cadence is meant to catch re-listing, when a broker adds your record back after removing it.

Consumer Reports tested seven services from May to September 2023 with four participants each, on 13 widely used people-search sites. Profiles removed by EasyOptOuts reached 59% after one week and 65% after four months; opting out by hand reached 70%. Consumer Reports gave the services only a name, current address and date of birth, and the participants did not answer any follow-up questions, so results with more information could differ. Consumer Reports does not consider the sample statistically significant.

Privacy Guides tested the service with two volunteers over three months in a review published in February 2025. On 15 high-priority people-search sites, 86% and 73% of their records were removed; on the 13 of those sites EasyOptOuts supports, 100% and 84%. Privacy Guides does not consider its results statistically significant either, and notes that both volunteers remained listed on sites the service does not cover.

Privacy & Data Handling

At sign-up EasyOptOuts asks for your legal name, date of birth, current address and an email address. Past addresses, phone numbers, other email addresses and names of relatives are optional; the company says more information makes the opt-outs more effective. The data you hand over never includes an ID document, a Social Security number or a power of attorney.

The privacy policy says EasyOptOuts shares your data with no one except to opt you out of supported sites, or when the law requires it, and it names no other use of your data. The policy also states a side effect. To find and remove a record, the bots type your details into each broker’s site. From that point the broker’s own privacy policy applies, and the data may end up outside the United States. The company says it enters as little as each site needs.

The site uses no third-party analytics or advertising trackers and does not track whether you open its emails. Your data sits in an encrypted Google Cloud database in the United States, and only key members of the US-based team can access it. Login is passwordless, through email confirmation, and the account page shows your personal details only in redacted form.

When you cancel, EasyOptOuts deletes your data from its database at once. Copies remain in backups for up to 7 days and in server logs for up to 30 days, and payment records and your emails to the company are kept indefinitely.

The security page mentions regular internal audits, but no external security audit has been published. No data breach involving EasyOptOuts has been reported.

Transparency & Verifiability

Two outside tests give independent verification of the results: the Consumer Reports study from 2024 and the Privacy Guides review from 2025. Privacy Guides paid for its own subscription and did not contact the company before testing. Both tests are small, and both say their results are not statistically significant. Nobody, neither EasyOptOuts nor an outside party, has published an audit of the removal process.

The list of covered sites is public and also names what the service does not handle and why, including the PeopleConnect sites. The terms of service say that EasyOptOuts makes no guarantee of removal from any site. A sign-up banner on its pages is broader: it speaks of removing your personal information “from the internet”, although the service covers only the brokers on its list.

For proof of removal, EasyOptOuts sends an email after each round that lists the sites where it found you and filed an opt-out. The email shows no screenshots and does not confirm that a broker actually deleted the record, so checking whether a listing is gone is up to you.

Usability & Support

The company says sign-up takes about five minutes. Privacy Guides received its first completion email about an hour and a half after paying. Payment goes through PayPal only; a card works without a PayPal account, but PayPal offers to create one by default. Privacy Guides listed a “fairly bare-boned interface” among its cons.

There is no family plan, so each adult needs a separate subscription. A business plan at $19.99 per employee per year has no contract or upfront payment, and nonprofits get a 25% discount. Support is by email only, from a US-based team.

Price & Value

The single Personal plan costs $19.99 a year. It has no introductory discount, so the renewal price is the same, and EasyOptOuts refunds the full amount within 150 days of sign-up. The service is sold separately and not bundled with any other product. There is no free scan that would show where you are listed before you pay.

For a US resident, $19.99 a year buys a service with two small independent tests behind it. For anyone living outside the United States, EasyOptOuts does nothing: it does not accept non-US addresses and covers no European or UK brokers.

Pros and Cons

  • In the Consumer Reports 2024 test, 65% of profiles were removed after four months, close to the 70% of manual opt-outs
  • Tested independently by both Consumer Reports in 2024 and Privacy Guides in 2025, though both samples were small
  • $19.99 a year with no higher renewal price, and a full refund within 150 days
  • Asks for no ID, Social Security number or power of attorney; phone numbers and relatives are optional
  • Opt-outs are fully automated, so staff do not see your data during regular scans
  • No third-party analytics or ad trackers, and data is deleted from its database when you cancel
  • The site list is public and says which sites are not covered
  • Works only for US residents and covers no EU or UK brokers
  • Cannot remove you from PeopleConnect sites such as TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate and Intelius
  • Rescans only every four months, so a re-added record can stay visible for months
  • Reports list where requests were filed, with no screenshots or confirmation of deletion
  • No external security audit of the service has been published
  • No family plan, PayPal as the only payment method, and support by email only
  • No free scan before you pay

Our Rating

  • Removal Effectiveness7.0/10

In the Consumer Reports 2024 test, 65% of profiles were gone after four months, close to the 70% that manual opt-outs reached. The service works only for US residents, rescans every four months, lists about 140 sites it handles directly and cannot remove you from PeopleConnect sites.

  • Privacy & Data Handling8.0/10

Sign-up needs no ID, and phone numbers and relatives are optional. The privacy policy limits sharing to the opt-outs themselves, and the site uses no third-party analytics. No external security audit is published.

  • Transparency & Verifiability7.0/10

Two small independent tests, by Consumer Reports in 2024 (four participants) and Privacy Guides in 2025 (two), neither statistically significant, and a public list of covered and uncovered sites. Reports show only where requests were filed, with no screenshots.

  • Usability & Support7.0/10

The company says sign-up takes about five minutes, and results arrive by email. The account page is basic, PayPal is the only way to pay, there is no family plan, and support is by email only.

  • Price & Value9.5/10

One plan at $19.99 a year with no higher renewal price, and a full refund within 150 days. There is no free scan.
