Without a paid plan, chats run on Flash-Lite, or on automatic model selection that sends most prompts to Flash-Lite and some to Flash or Pro. With Keep Activity on (the default for users 18 and over), chats are auto-deleted after 18 months; the period can be changed to 3 or 36 months or to no auto-delete. With Keep Activity off, and for temporary chats, chats are kept with the account for 72 hours. Chats picked for human review, with related data such as language, device type, location and feedback, are disconnected from the account and kept for up to three years, even if you delete your activity. Google says deletion from its systems generally takes about two months, and encrypted backups can hold data for up to six months.

Two distinct behaviours. In guest mode the conversation is erased when the session ends and nothing is persisted at all.
